NEWS FROM THE GOLF CLUB
he 2021 Gauteng North Golf Union’s league season
is nearly over and Blue Valley’s Midam Scratch
TLeague team have done us proud by winning their
division ahead of Pretoria Country Club, who were the
early pace setters. Congratulations to Craig Duncan and
his squad for bringing the silverware back to the Valley.
We all look forward to a successful 2022 season. Blue
Valley continues to punch well above its weight. Well
done to all the other league captains, namely Winda
Austin-Loeve, Dave Graziani, Suren Reddy and Gert Swart
for their dedication and decorum. The club is proud of
not only you but all the players who represented the
various Blue Valley teams with aplomb.
The Blue Valley Winter Club Championships were
held recently and the course was once again in good
condition. Thank you to Pat Lowth and his team for the
administration, Taste for the catering and Rob Sheasby
of Servest for presenting the course in tournament
condition. Also, a big thank you to the committee for
their assistance in making the event a success. The
winners were as follows:
• Men’s Champion: Alessio Graziani – 144 Points (Level
Par)
• Men’s Runner Up: Jaco Meyer – 148 Points
• Men’s B Division Champion: Avinash Parbhoo The Men’s Midam Scratch League team who recently won their league
– 167 Points
• Men’s B Division Runner Up: Steve Grundlingh
– 173 Points
• Ladies’ IPS Champion: Winda Austin-Loeve – 71 Points
• Men’s C Division Champion: Mahendra Bhana
– 68 Points
• Men’s C Division Runner Up: Johan Cronje – 68 Points
Congratulations to Alessio Graziani who not only won
the Men’s Championships but soon afterwards, jetted off
to the USA to enrol on a golf scholarship programme. We
wish him well in his endeavours.
The Blue Valley Betterball Mixed and Ladies’ Knockout
event was recently concluded. The winners will
now progress to the GNGU Finals at Blair Atholl on
21 November 2021. Congratulations to the following pairs:
• Mixed Betterball Winners: Bev and Nico Meerholz
• Ladies’ Betterball Winners: Amelia Swart and Winda

The Men’s Betterball has reached the semi final stage. The
final will be played by the end of October with the winners
also progressing to Blair Atholl on 21 November.
The annual Spring Day was held on Saturday, 18
September. Members and visitors alike went the extra mile
and dressed up for the occasion. Some members even
took the trouble to dress up their carts. Thank you to our
caterers, Taste, who once again dished up a fabulous meal.
The winners of the day were: Katrin Corna, Bev Meerholz,
Winda Austin-Loeve and Len Loeve on 92 points.
The next big calendar event is The King of the Tips
which will be held on Saturday, 4 December 2021. The
competition is played from the very back tees to the very
back pins (flag position). The Blue Valley course cannot be
played any longer and is a real test from start to finish.
