ORANGE RIVER NEAR KAKAMAS,

In 1897 the Dutch Reformed Church started a colony on the banks of the Orange
River for farmers who had lost everything in the drought. Today this region
is a prime exporter of grapes and dried fruit and a testament to what can be
achieved against considerable odds.
