Visiting Gerald Burrell at the new Samrand premises of his car
restoration business, Transformers Autobody, I recall how I met

him years ago in his Centurion hobby shop where my son would
while away hours, studying the collection of slot cars on the

shelves and plotting how to negotiate yet another advance on
his pocket money out of me. Much has changed in the passing
years. As a classic car restorer, the cars in Gerald’s collection

are now significantly bigger and the price tags are way out of
my son’s pocket money league.
