THE BIG PICTURE

For many years, my wife Cheryl
and I travelled through the
platteland with my camera,
documenting the towns and
people we came across. Every
so often, we would stumble
upon a scene that was simply
other-worldly, like this one in
the Eastern Cape. We sat for an
hour watching these three men
plowing the field, cracking the
EASTERN CAPE, 2014 whip, whistling and shouting.
It was a mesmerising sight,
and it felt as if we had stepped
back in time. These men were
using traditional methods of
PHOTOGRAPHY BY IVAN MULLER subsistence farming, and their

rows of freshly turned earth.
