THE BIG PICTURE
CAFÉ
CULTURE
There are over 150,000 cafés in Italy and the Italian café culture is one of the oldest
and most iconic traditions in the country. It dates back to the 17th century when the
first cafés opened in Venice, and since then, they have become an integral part of
Italian social life. The popularity of street cafes is due to several factors, including
the country's warm climate, the relaxed pace of life, and the Italian people's love of
socialising and people-watching.
