FASHION AND BEAUTY

mothers and children, and NPOs that
         rescue children from child slavery.

         The founder behind Declare Clothing,
Kirsten Beukes, has been a resident at
the estate for 22 years and completed
her schooling at Cornwall Hill College.
         Kirsten’s clothing foundation was laid
at the University of Pretoria, where
she undertook a four-year degree in
         B Consumer Science Clothing Retail,
which is equivalent to an Honours
degree. It was during this time that
Kirsten's love for ethical and sustainable
fashion began to take root. Today, she
         not only spearheads Declare Clothing,
         but personally crafts each garment
         herself. Her hands-on approach
ensures that every item carries the
         mark of her unwavering commitment
         to quality and sustainability. Kirsten
         provides employment opportunities
to local grannies and partners with
a small crochet company to create
         Declare Clothing's blankets, teddies
and bonnets. In her journey, Kirsten is
advised by a trusted friend and mentor,
Gina Snyman, a seasoned expert in
         pattern making and fashion.
         Declare Clothing's origins began with
Kirsten's desire to create a unique
and meaningful gift for a dear friend
who was expecting a baby. Kirsten's
         personal touch was evident through
         the hand-embroidered name of the
child, along with a depiction of Noah's
Ark and its animal inhabitants. Little did
she know that this thoughtful gesture
would ignite her passion for children's
clothing. Inspired by the joy her hand-
         embroidered creations brought to her
loved ones, Kirsten continued to craft
         these personalised baby-grows as gifts.
In January 2022, she officially founded
Declare Clothing and has been learning
         and growing every since.
