From my second-floor balcony, I have a treetop view of my neighbours’ fruit
trees, all the way across the valley to Jan Smuts House. From here, I can
photograph all the birds that fly past and come to eat from the fruit and
insects in the trees around my house and my neighbours’ properties.
GREEN WOOD-HOOPOE
These loud cackling birds with
their colourful plumage and long,
curved red bills are frequent
guests in my garden. They are
masters at extracting hidden
insects from crevices and under
bark.
