INTRODUCTION
DOING SMALL THINGS WELL
When we began planning this issue, I found myself pondering what
“community” truly means — not just as a word, but as a living entity.
In the Dainfern Precinct, community shows up in different ways. It’s in
the early morning patrols along Broadacres Drive, where our security
teams quietly keep watch while the rest of us sleep.
It’s in the clink of second-hand teacups at The Cheshire Trove, where
every purchase funds care and dignity for others. It’s in the soft shuffle
of small feet at a Dinky Karate class, where children are learning not
just how to block and kick, but how to focus, listen, and grow.
And sometimes, it’s in the full-circle moments—like recognising the
teacher who once sparked your love for words, now leading a school
where education still feels deeply human.
This month’s magazine is stitched together with stories like these:
Stories about doing the small things well. About showing up. About
choosing intention over noise.
Whether it’s Mandela Month reminding us to give more than 67
minutes, or a quiet act of courage like launching a charity thrift
shop from scratch, what stays with me is this: the real power of a
neighbourhood lies in the way its people live, teach, protect, and give.
Thank you to everyone in the Dainfern Precinct who continues to show
us what that looks like. You’re the reason this publication exists — and
the reason it matters.
