URANIUM
STREET
CLEAN-UP
e were recently shocked to
read about a lady who was
raped on Lombardy Road. She
Wwas attacked while walking
on her way to work during the morning. The
horror of the story was that she was dragged
into the overgrown bushes on the verge, and
the assault took place as motorists drove
past, not even noticing.
This incident was truly appalling and it led
us to seek help to try and clean up Uranium
Street. Many people working in Fourways
Gardens walk this road daily, to and from
public transport. It also became an eyesore
in our neighbourhood but no one wanted
to take responsibility or accountability for
cleaning it up.
We asked our estate Turfnet team if they could
spare two workers with brush cutters for a day
or two. They confirmed that, as the growing
season is tapering off in the estate parks, they
would have some time available to assist with
clearing the street. We also asked 24/7 Security
to ensure the safety of our workers, which they
offered to do with pleasure.
It was evident that cutting the vegetation
back was our first obstacle, but under the
bushes there was a lot of rubbish!
Club Real Estate has been very active in
cleaning up our area, along with their
partners, Phoenix Bonds and Van Deventer
& Van Deventer Inc. They have a team of
workers on duty daily, cleaning up our streets.
As an approved property practitioner and
resident of Fourways Gardens Estate, Martin
Riley from Club Real Estate was called for
help and he did not hesitate to get involved.
Their cleaning crew managed to clean the
entire Uranium Street, from Cedar Road to
William Nicol over a two-day period. Over
100 bags of refuse were picked up under the
overgrown bushes on this stretch!
We cannot thank all the parties that got involved
enough! We hope that future collaborations
like this one will enable us to improve not only
our estate but the surrounding area as well.
