DOOLHOF
WINE
TASTING
ith Doolhof, a gin and tonic is
not just a gin and tonic. Infused
Wwith Malbec grape skins,
Doolhof’s Malbec gin is unique.
It proved to be an excellent welcome drink
at the wine-tasting session on Saturday,
4 February, breaking the afternoon heat. So
impressed were our avid wine tasters that a
few were already filling in their order forms
for this gin before the tasting even started!
Wimpie Boorman, who presented the
Groote Post tasting a few years ago,
introduced us to the Doolhof farm. He
described how the vineyards are placed to
bring out the characteristics of each varietal
grown on the farm.
Along with the award-winning Bloedklip
Malbec, the Môrestond Chardonnay we
tasted represented the exclusive Limietberg
Reserve wines at this event. Our 60 or so
wine tasters in attendance were impressed.
The session covered both the rich history of
the farm and the many hectares of fynbos
to be conserved. Noteworthy Doolhof
vintages were showcased at the wine
tasting – they’re now on more than a few
must-see lists!
Our sponsor, Tyson Properties, donated a
generous hamper. The lucky winner was
newcomer Stella Schleich. Congratulations!
Accompanying the superb wine was
delicious food prepared by the Gardens
Café Bistro and Bar. The first event of
the year was a great success – and it’s all
systems go for our upcoming wine-tasting
sessions.
