he University of Pretoria
offers a two-year
p o st g rad u at e
Tprogramme in
Landscape Architecture
to prospective students
who have completed a
three-year bachelor’s
degree (NQF Level 7) in
architecture or landscape
architecture. From 2024,
we will also consider candidates
from other relevant disciplines who have
completed a set of bridging courses through
UP Enterprises. The programme is split into
two qualifications: a BScHons (LArch) degree
and the MLArch(Prof) degree.
We produce highly sought-after graduates
with firm foundations in sustainable
development and social engagement who
excel in design development, both spatially
and technically.
Our programme offers an opportunity to
study in an interdisciplinary environment with
students participating in research-led studios
where they work on real world problems
in collaboration with industry partners,
community-based organisations, local
government, and staff and students from
other departments and our international
university partners.

The ethos of the Department of Architecture is
grounded in a belief that the role of the designer
in the 21st century is to co-create a better future
for the environments and societies within which
we work. Human-centred design, practical
community engagement, a solid grounding
in the practicalities of environmentally
responsible design, and an understanding of
the nested systems within which designers
operate, inform the regenerative design and
development approach that is the hallmark of
our department.
