PROJECT
• after the tufting process, polyurethane
is incorporated into the product, a
process that fixes the yarns to the
backing and reinforces tear resistance.
This Mondo Turf artificial turf system is
manufactured in accordance with the UNE
EN ISO 9001 quality management system.
Mondo’s artificial sports surfaces are
produced at their tufting plant in Spain,
which also manufactures artificial turf
surfaces for football, tennis and rugby.
They also produce ornamental grass.
The facility has extrusion lines
dedicated to creating monofilaments
as well as fibrillation lines for fibrillated
fibers. The various fibers are tufted inside
the plant in order to create the surfaces
ready for installation.
Steel roof structure
This was designed by LSF Supplies/Quick
Steel Global and comprises a hiproof with
a 50 metre edge to edge span, including
an extension of 20 metres across the
championship course.
In order to complete the work within
an eightweek time frame, the company
provided a containerised, onsite roll former
to manufacture the 20m + beams and
eliminate unnecessary splicing of the long
beams. Manufacturing files were emailed
to site and produced on the steel printing
machine at Munyaka. Steel roof structure detail
This particular roof is the second largest
oculus building in the world, and the
largest light steel frame oculus building in
the world.
The original engineering design allowed
for a 76mm deflection across the 50 m span,
and when the beams were installed, the
deflection was less than 15 mm, surpassing
all expectations.
LSF Supplies/QS Global’s design and
engineering teams undertake projects
across Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and the
USA. The company’s head office is situated
in Alberton, Johannesburg South.
