NEWS
fter giving the fish in our dams a long
‘lockdown rest’, the Angling Club
Awas given the go-ahead to drop
some lines again on the 5 June 2020.
Some of our members wasted no time
getting to the somewhat chilly fishing
waters... and the pictures show the result
of their efforts.
Due to the lockdown, some of our events
unfortunately had to be cancelled. We are
looking forward to the remaining events of
the year... and will keep members posted.
We would like to once again ask
members to update their details and
to join our Facebook page (where
we post all the latest news). To do
this, please send an email to either
andre@audioprofessionals.co.za or willie@
mikebuyskescon.co.za. We are in the
process of creating a new, updated list.
We would also like to start a “TALL TAIL”
(pun intended) competition. Please send
us your best fishing related story. We will
publish the best stories here in the Intra
Muros.
Recently, some really dark coloured carp
(almost black), were caught in our dams.
The experts offer a couple of possible
reasons for this. Different colours in carp
can be due to environment or genes. The
food the carp eats can have an influence
on the background colour of the skin and
scales. This includes the pigment in the
algae. Seasonal changes also play a role,
with the fish tending to be darker in colder
weather. Carp caught in ecosystems that
have bottoms of dark clay, also tend to
produce darker coloured carp. This might
be relevant in our dams, as they are all
lined with dark clay.
Until next time... tight lines!
