players. As a result, the first golf estate
in South Africa was born in January 1992,
named Silver Lakes Country Club. By
coming up with the concept of establishing
these living estates, Mr Swart has made a
massive, positive impact on Pretoria and Dirk Hermanus Swart in 1993. Dirk Swart is currently 86 years old.

The first Founder’s Golf Day was hosted
at Silver Lakes. Mr Swart’s son, Blacky,
was a PGA professional golfer and PGA
tour commissioner at the time, and he
invited pro golfers to play at the Silver
Lakes exclusive 18-hole championship golf
course with big names including Ernie Els.
However, after Mr Swart started a property
business in the Southern Cape (Marketing
Oubaai, Pinnacle Point, etc.) and he and
his son moved away, the event stopped.

I have been eager to get the event back on
track, and so on 12 May we will be at Silver
Lakes to give credit where credit is due.

In the past, thousands of rands were
raised for the event and many children’s
lives were positively impacted by the golf
day. We at iPLAYiCARE are honoured to
start this event again. Our motto is “Let’s
play, let’s grow junior golf” as we have
the vision and passion to help young,
underprivileged golfers become the best
they can be. We can’t let potential young
talent fall through the cracks due to a lack
of money.
