LADIES GOLF NEWS
WINTER WINS AND DONATIONS
adies golf at Silver Lakes is growing stronger each
year. We have depth in the club and it shows:
Lcongratulations to our women golfers for bringing
home a first-time win for the second team in the
Gauteng North Golf Union (GNGU) Group B League.
Ladies of all ages compete in these leagues, and we are
proud to have secured our spot in Group A with two
strong teams that will participate in 2024.
Going from strength to strength is our very own
Madeleine de Wet, who was elected as the new vice-
president of Women’s Golf South Africa. Madeleine
has made her mark: she served as the ladies’ captain
for three years before joining GNGU as treasurer and
later as vice-president. Madeleine has done what it
takes to help grow women in golf, working long hours
away from home and family – and the sacrifice and
hard work has paid off. Congratulations, Madeleine!
We look forward to seeing what the future holds for
this elite member of Silver Lakes Golf Club.
Being on the golf course in winter is hard at first. It’s
cold and it takes some warming up to play at one’s
peak. If it’s difficult for us, imagine the challenge for
those less fortunate. With this in mind, the Tuesday
players started a winter food collection for the less 2023 GNGU Group B Saturday League winners
fortunate. Pre-packed meals for more than 600 people
were collected and delivered to Alette Bester at
Created to Worship Ministries SA.
We called this the “jar-in-the-car” project, and our soup
recipe was widely shared in order to make a difference
in the lives of people going through tough times.
