The journey through school is an important and exciting one, and it is a privilege for us to
be a part of each child’s unique educational experience.
It has been a remarkable privilege to watch the rapid growth of Steyn City School. Each
year we witness two extraordinary moments. The fi rst is the Bell Ringing Ceremony where
our incoming College students ring themselves out of the Preparatory School and into the
College. The second is the Valediction Ceremony, during which our Grade 0 class sings to
the Grade 12 class before they ring themselves out of the school for the last time. These
simple yet profound celebrations of our student’s journey through our school deeply
moving, and they speak to the heart of who we are.
From the magical EYC playground to the hockey astro, the Aquatic Centre, the beautifully
equipped laboratories and technology centres, and the magnifi cent Mitchell Theatre, this
school sits comfortably among the top schools in the world. The remarkable architecture
reminds us that schools no longer need to look institutional and that light and open spaces
are important for children to grow, play, and learn. But schools are about so much more
than a building. They really are about the heart and the spirit of the people in them and our
heart and spirit are already woven into the fabric of our community.
It is our intention that the young adults who graduate from Steyn City School will be
prepared to take on the world with heart and with spirit and that they will always live our
motto ‘to reach beyond.’ In the words of two of our alumni;
‘I have learnt so many life lessons at this school and I promise to continue
spreading the values I have learnt here wherever I go.’

‘Some may say, “We reach beyond” is just a motto or mantra, but it is so much
more. It inspires me every so often when I feel as though my dreams are too
ambitious and my goals too lofty. It spurs me on.’

We discover knowledge with curiosity and delight, we compete with commitment and
confi dence, we perform with creativity and artistry, we live with care and respect, we lead
with courage and restraint, and we serve with humility and generosity. We cherish our
African roots and dare to make a distinctive diff erence as signifi cant global citizens, as we
live out the school motto, ‘We Reach Beyond’.
Here’s to the future that we have yet to imagine!
