MAHINDRA SA LAUNCH
Mahindra XUV 300
oinciding with two superb sales months in SA, Mahindra
revealed an update of their popular medium SUV, the
CXUV 300 range, to the media.
The changes are minor, with the mechanical spec remaining
unchanged. The petrol engine delivers 81kW and 200Nm to the front
wheels through a smooth 6-speed manual transmission. The diesel
option offers 86kW and 300Nm while sipping a claimed 5.8l/100km.
The new interior features black trim instead of the previous
light-coloured seats that were rather impractical. A 7-inch
touchscreen with reverse camera and full connectivity are now
included.
Safety is a big factor and, with up to 7 airbags in top W8 spec,
Mahindra is proud to boast a 5 star NCAP rating for the model range.
A short drive on the road confirmed that the car is smooth and
comfortable - and it felt like it has sufficient power for all conditions.
Hopefully, a full test will follow soon.
We had a diesel model on test previously and found the
car impressive in all respects. I recall our main criticism was the
impractical light interior that has now been addressed.
As always, pricing is crucial in this market segment and, with
the range priced from R254 999 to R336 999, it certainly makes
the Mahindra XUV 300 affordable. The only missing factor is the
lack of an automatic option to add to the standard 6-speed manual
offerings. n
