first King of the Tips took place in December
and conditions were extremely tough. The
Ladies’ section hosted the Christmas nine-hole event and invited the girls from Tembisa Golf Club. The Blue Valley ladies’ course measured over 7050 metres but those
captain Winda Austin-Loeve (in the red shirt) hosted the event. who took part thoroughly enjoyed it. Some
large numbers were posted and a number of
our members lifted their bats (clubs) when
they passed 100.
Our junior programme with Tembisa Golf
Club will commence in February. The 15
most passionate players will commence on
a 12-week advanced programme and the
committee hopes to get a number of these
youngsters to eventually join our club and
start playing the “game of a lifetime”!
The Ladies` section under Winda Austin-
Loeve hosted a number of girls from Tembisa
Golf Club at their annual Christmas nine-
hole event, followed by snacks and presents.
Fun was had by all and the Blue Valley ladies
really looked after their guests from Tembisa.
Bev Meerholz and Katrin Corna (both former
lady captains) won the Windhoek Ladies`
Pairs event that was held at Blue Valley late
last year. They held off against some fierce
competition to win by one point and now
advance to the regional finals which will be
held early in 2021.
The Blue Valley club championships will be
held on 13 and 14 March 2021. All current
members are encouraged to enter and this
year should be a bumper event. The club
championship is our flagship event and is
usually well attended. We hope to have an
even bigger field than last year.
Covid-19 has really changed the world and
golf is no exception. All protocols as per
government regulations have to be followed.
Golfers have to check in prior to playing. This
is to ensure that numbers are controlled and
the basic checks are done. I still find people
wandering onto the course on a Monday, as
well as other days, without having gone via
the check-in desk. This jeopardises our course
and in extreme cases, the course could be
shut down by the authorities. Please follow
the protocols and help in controlling this
deadly virus. BV
