ome of us were fortunate enough to end 2022 and
begin 2023 by going on holiday, whether you drove
Ssomewhere or stayed at home.

From Gauteng, taking the N1, N9, R341 and finally the
R62, I arrived at my destination in the Klein Karoo…the
healing hot springs, Warmwaterberg Spa in the West-
ern Cape between Barrydale and Ladismith.

It’s a rustic resort with peace and quiet, except for the
peacocks saying good morning before sunrise. The
peacock is the spa’s logo, and they have a couple of
them wandering around eating the insects and looking
beautiful. If you are looking for a place where it’s quiet
and you can heal or find yourself again, whether emo-
tionally or spiritually, this is the place.

Here you can choose whether you want to camp, book
a caravan, a timber chalet, a unit in the main house
(where each bathroom has a sunken roman bath),
the historic bath house or one of the new Studio Bath
Houses, which are the honeymoon suites. It’s nothing
fancy. It offers just the basics you need in a self-cater-
ing unit and if you don’t want to or can’t cook, there’s
a restaurant that will feed your tummy. Although the
restaurant has desserts, you can treat yourself at the
little shop with ice-cream, chocolate, marshmallows
and more. For those who can and want to braai, you
