GARDENING
Dear Residents,
As per the April edition of the Cornwall View Magazine, each
resident has received a small gift, courtesy of the Cornwall
Hill Homeowners Association and Melia's Garden Service: a
spekboom segment planted in an upcycled condensed milk tin.
We realise that many of you might have missed the electronic
version of the April issue of the magazine, as it appeared during
level 5 of the national lockdown and was unfortunately not
printed in hard copy.
The idea was originally to distribute a tinned plant to every
stand, together with the article on the spekboom plant, a
“superior succulent” and to take part in a larger environmental
effort known as the #spekboomchallenge. They were initially
scheduled to go out over the Easter weekend, and thus the
colourful pastel polka-dot tins, but due to the lockdown
delay, they at least got a chance to grow some roots while
being nurtured in my garden. Four hundred of these tinned
plants stood around our swimming pool, barely surviving two
thunderstorms (one with hail), resulting in them having to be
replanted twice.
We sincerely hope you all have enjoyed receiving your
spekboom plants and you have managed to keep it indoors
until the worst of the winter frost has passed. When spring
finally makes its welcome arrival, feel free to plant your
spekboom in a nice sunny area, or even a well-placed pot
would work very well.
Regards, Michele Burger
Hopefully a little greenery has brought some positivity to the
Cornwall Hill residents during these otherwise bleak times.
