ANNUAL EVENT
he mammoth task of keeping the initiative
going each year involves encouraging
residents to contribute, ensuring they
are up to date with the progress on the
Tnotice boards at the entrance, tracking
the donations coming in and buying the vouchers; this
is skilfully done by Nicolette Conradie and her team
comprising Helene Bothma updating the board, Mark
Hattingh of Hattingh and Ndzabandzaba Attorneys,
managing the donations, Ivan Muller taking the
photographs and John Nicolakakis, always generously
providing Roman’s Pizza vouchers. Thank you, we are so
grateful for your efforts on our behalf.
Dr Heyns opened this year’s ceremony by thanking
every member of staff for their teamwork and for
putting their hearts into their jobs. It was due to these
efforts that the estate successfully pulled through
the challenges presented to it by the Corona virus.
He reminded everyone that the year ahead will
present challenges too, but expressed confidence that
“together we will overcome them.”
Jan Snyman with Dirk Heyns In her speech, Nicolette acknowledged that the staff
of the estate had taken a lot of “punches” this tough
year, but she reminded us that it is in the tough times
that one has the opportunity to grow as a person. It is
an opportunity to look at yourself and ask, “who am
I going to choose to be in this situation?” She hoped
they would choose faith, hope, care and love. With this
in mind, she presented a mirror framed with personal
messages of gratitude from residents to the staff, to be
mounted in the staff room. Furthermore, she said she
was proud to be part of this initiative where Cornwall
Hill residents chose to recognise the estate staff for
their contribution to the residents and to thank them
for all their hard work during the year.
Nicolette closed by wishing all the estate staff and
families a blessed Christmas and 2021.
“What a year it has been!” responded Eric Mulaudzi,
shift manager at Bidvest Coin Security, in his
acceptance speech on behalf of the staff. Eric thanked
Coin Security management, Cornwall Hill Estate Board
of Directors and residents for their support throughout
the difficult year. He expressed a collective gratitude to
residents who had shown their appreciation to the staff
during lockdown and by contributing to the Cornwall
Nicolette Conradie Eric Mulaudzi Cares fund, saying it was these gestures that were so
important to the staff and their families.
Eric continued by encouraging his colleagues who were
on duty over the festive season. He reassured residents
of their and their properties’ safety by saying, “We will
be here”. He wished those colleagues going on leave
a safe journey, reminded them to follow the Covid
protocols and to have a good rest.
In numbers:
• 198 out of the 402 households on the estate
contributed;
• R272 000 was raised;
• Each staff member received a Checkers voucher worth
R4 000 and Roman’s Pizza vouchers.
Finally Jan Snyman, Board Chairman, closed the
morning by reminding us all that the residents had
opened their hearts, hands and pockets to make the
wonderful celebratory morning possible. He thanked
the Cornwall community.
