THE BIG PICTURE
FOR THE LOVE OF BIRDS
The lockdown regulations have put a temporary halt to my usual personal photographic
endeavours of photographing the people, structures and landscapes of Southern Africa.
My photographic style has always been somewhat austere and documentary but with a
limited audience. But one is never too old for a change and since January this year I, ably
assisted by my wife Cheryl, have embarked on a new, much more colourful photographic
hobby called 'bird photography' to fill the void until things get back to normal. Our go
to place has been the Rietvlei Nature Reserve and it took us almost six months of regular
visits to eventually spot these two magnificent and colorful Kingfishers.
