          A Dainfern Estate Community Event

t was the evening of 16 September
2020 and, worldwide, we had been
under lockdown for 175 days. Our
             President Cyril Ramaphosa announced
that we would be moved to Level 1 of
        Ithe COVID-19 lockdown and initiated
an exciting national challenge - The
          Jerusalema Challenge. As Dainfern Estate
Residents, we decided to celebrate in style.

The theme was a picnic held at the Pavillion
and everyone was invited to dress in their
best Traditional Attire. This invitation was
extended to every resident that I personally
bumped into or even drove past within the
estate. There were people from all over the
estate and the broader community. The
idea was to come and celebrate the fact
that we have survived a pandemic and are
now moving into a season of community and
sharing. We followed protocols of signing into
          the facilities, having temperatures checked
and keeping social distancing as a courtesy over the Pavillion, from soccer on the field using cones. We had 99 participants and,
to each person’s view of the pandemic and to an Arts table and even a reading corner as we all learned the ‘1;2;3;4 steps and
following the Government’s restrictions. This where the kids and parents could interact on jikeleza’, a drone captured this with a bird’s
didn’t stop people from making new friends a mental level while learning different native eye view of all the colour and flags from
and catching up on how the pandemic has languages. around the world signifying that we are one
changed their everyday lives. and we can celebrate our losses and wins
Picnic baskets and cooler boxes were the together!
In that spirit we initiated a ‘bring and share’ theme of the day as bright colours filled
table where the Mammas and young ladies the atmosphere complementing the pursuit After performing the Jerusalema, which
