FOOD FOR THOUGHT
STILL HAVEN’T FOUND

Hfront of you? A friend’s experience of a bellowing
sergeant major demanding the return of his missing puttee
comes to mind. (‘Puttees’ are leather coverings wrapped
around the ankles of combat boots). Apparently, his rage
withdrew into embarrassment when a brave trooper pointed
out that the missing puttee was, in fact, still firmly strapped
around his ankle. What he’s reported to have said next isn’t
fit for publishing.
Hopefully, your experience of overlooking what’s in plain
view isn’t as embarrassing, but I’m sure that you can relate.
Scientists recently had the pleasure of documenting the
design of an advanced electric engine long sought by
countless engineers. Unlike the sergeant major, though,
no engineer need be embarrassed, because although
the electric motors of the microscopic E.coli bacteria are
everywhere for all to see, they do require an electron DAINFERN COLLEGE AUDITORIUM
