HOME FRONT
THE ORDER OF
DAINFERN 2023
The Dainfern Homeowners Association (DHA) is proud to
award the Order of Dainfern for 2023 to:
Mrs Colleen Teklenburg (the Crochet Queen)
Thank you for all that you do to make a difference in our communities in need.
ollen was awarded the
Order of Dainfern for 2023
because she fulfilled all the
necessary criteria for this
Caward.
She is an incredibly kind and generous
person who has devoted her time and
effort over the last 3½ years to motivate
a group of like-minded ladies to crochet
and knit blankets for those in need.
The group she has managed to grow
over the years has become a very
strong connected community, giving
all its members support and a sense
of purpose and belonging they thrive
under. Colleen makes everyone feel so
special and at the same time, and that
makes a big difference.
Through the charity initiative she
inadvertently created an important
social gathering for the busy hands that
contribute by knitting and crocheting
away, giving them all an opportunity
to become part of a social group of
like-minded people that support each
other in more ways than one, the Friday
gathering allows for addressing life,
societal and cultural needs.
If someone in the group is ill or not
doing well, she will visit them, helping
with meals, and sends flowers. She also
goes out and buys wool, needles, and
hooks sometimes with donations, but
often with her own money.
She could have easily have used her
own home or an external venue for
her weekly crocheting group, yet she
chose Six33 Restaurant knowing that
this would also give back to the greater
Dainfern community.
During lockdown, Colleen supported the
Clubhouse by ordering food from them
to supply meals for the security guards.
Indeed, she always has time to help
others and she does it all for the greater
good, in a humble and selfless manner.
Well done, Colleen!
