HOME FRONT
RALLYING
magine coming home from a
long journey to find that your
beloved Fourways isn’t as you
left it. This is what Raffaella TOGETHER TO
Carnicelli, a long-time Dainfern
resident, experiences each time
she travels abroad. Her return
to South Africa brings a fresh BETTER
Ieye to the rapid changes and
decay in the neighbourhood - a decline
quicker than many may realise. Raffi’s
solution, inspired by a similar initiative FOURWAYS
in Bedfordview, is clear: “Talking about
the issues feels good momentarily, but
action truly counts,” she asserts.
The fabric of our community is woven
not just within our own walls but extends
into the very streets and open spaces
of Fourways. Raffi reminds us that
while we diligently invest in our homes
and gardens, we must not turn a blind
eye to the spaces that unite us all. The
creeping spread of litter, the winking out
of streetlights, and the wild overgrowth
that covers misdeeds all nibble away at
the well-being of our investments and
our peace of mind.
Our collective pride and safety are on
the line. Raffi taps into this pride as
she talks about the formation of Better
Fourways NPO. This spirited group
of residents is rolling up their
sleeves to bring back the
neighbourhood’s shine,
from Winnie Mandela Drive
to the buzzing vicinity
of Monte Casino and
the leafy stretches of
Cedar Road. To kickstart
positive transformation,
Better Fourways has
already undertaken
several impactful
initiatives, including:
