FOURWAYS GARDENS’ BEAUTIFUL RENOVATIONS B y Fr ancesc a Bea ttie
FROM QUAINT AND OLD TO MODERN
SOPHISTICATED ON A TIGHT BUDGET
he owner of this home was
looking for an investment
opportunity. The attraction of
Tthis property was the potential
offered by the dated, modest home,
the excellent position in the estate, the
unusual outdoor entertainment and pool
area and the extremely spacious living
areas.
The finishes in the home were tired and
the marmalade-speckled facebrick was
dated. The exterior was spectacularly
changed by an extensive process of
painting/plastering with a mix of high
quality paint and a special sealant. After
the lengthy procedure that took over four
months to complete, the mottled brick
was transformed to a slick, modern look.
In the two large lounges, the old terracotta
tiles and carpet were replaced with large
pale tiles to match the interior and
exterior walls that were painted Eggshell
white and Broken white, respectively.
Modern lighting recessed in the ceiling
replaced the old fittings.
A dark, heavy, old-fashioned bar and
atrium were removed from the main
lounge. This allowed the fourth bedroom
to be extended and a large walk-in
dressing room with a skylight was installed
off the modernised en suite bathroom.
The substantial walk-in storage and
closets were built by Charlton Sibanda,
a craftsman specialising in steelwork
and kitchen installations. Minimalistic
furniture was added to enhance a modern
feel.
In the main lounge, the round 1980s
porthole window was replaced with a
huge rectangular window to let more
light in and open a veiw up to the pool
and entertainment area.
The kitchen had very acceptable black
and white floor tiles, granite work surfaces
Exterior before (above) Exterior after (above) and plenty of 1970s pine cabinetry.
