LITTLE KICKERS
MORE THAN JUST FOOTBALL
One of the activities on offer at
Fourways Gardens Residential
Estate is Little Kickers. They
are geared to teaching football
to pre-schoolers and children
up to Grade 3 level.
ittle Kickers classes introduce
football to boys and girls aged from
18 months up to eight years old.
LThe programme was developed by
a group of FA-qualified coaches and Junior
Preparatory school teachers. As a result,
rather than focusing purely on football, the
programme incorporates a number of early
learning goals. Valuable concepts such as
sharing and teamwork are introduced in a
fun environment. The classes also enable
children to develop co-ordination, agility
and balance. In addition, early learning
concepts such as colours and numbers are
gently introduced through football. The
football equipment used is realistic and
child-friendly.
FUNdamentals
Each of the four classes is tailored to a
different age group. In addition, they have
two core beliefs that they take into every
session.
Firstly, they believe in something they call
‘Play not Push’. It means teaching football in
a fun, pressure-free environment. They want
to give children a positive introduction to
sport as a whole, not just football, so they’re
more likely to stay healthy and active
throughout their lives.
Secondly, they believe football can be
educational. Coached in the right way, it
can stimulate imagination and aid early
development skills such as learning colours
and numbers, following instructions and
playing as a team.
Classes involve a number of games that
require parents/guardians to put on their
running shoes and get actively involved
in the sessions. However, some games
