FAMILY CAMPOUT
Saturday, 8 March
Rain, rain go away!
ith the near-constant rain this year, we nervously
announced the 2025 Family Campout, and what
good weather we had! Clear blue skies and a hot
Wafternoon greeted campers setting up tents and
campsites on the Campout afternoon, and face painting and crafts
at the Lapa kept the young ones entertained while mom and dad
battled through the morass of tent poles, ropes, and mattresses!
With the campsites set up, it was time to start the fires, and the
braaiing commenced before nightfall, with floodlights ensuring
that no dad had an excuse to undercook or overcook the braai meat!
And just like that, it was time for the S’mores and toasted
marshmallows! Eunice from Jawitz helped to assemble the
S’mores packs, and as soon as word spread about them, we
almost battled to keep up with the demand! With skewer sticks
in hand and marshmallows ready, the braais became the place
to be, with a buzzing of excited children baking S’mores and
roasting marshmallows! While we don’t know precisely how
many marshmallows were consumed, the ensuing sugar rush was
unmistakable!
And then, the debate about bedtime ensued, with the campsite
getting quieter and quieter until only the frogs could be heard!
Groggy-eyed campers emerged from tents on Sunday morning,
ready for a caffeine jolt, and the HasBean coffee tuk-tuk was ready
and serving coffees, hot chocolates, smoothies, and baked goodies
before 7am!
Our paramedic had plenty of free time, attending to only one bee
sting, one small cut, and some grazes – exactly how we like our
events to go!
Thank you to all the campers for cleaning up after themselves and
for the great community spirit on display at the Campout! We also
thank our sponsors, Jawitz Properties, and Eunice, who helped
prepare S’mores and hand out glow stick armbands.
Our Campout is a fun adventure for the children and a great
advertisement for Fourways Gardens, and we showed our guests
what they’re missing out on!
By the way, if anyone’s asking, there’s still a red electric toothbrush
at lost-and-found.
