ENVIRONMENTAL FEATURE
Ornithogalum thyrsoides. Commonly known as
Moraea fugax. The fragrant flowers in blue, yellow or white Chincherinchee. Important in horticulture, landscaping and the
bloom from August to November, opening in the early afternoon cut-flower trade, for its long-flowering blooms. It often occurs
and fading fast. The corms (Soetuintjies) were an important in dense stands, flowering from October to December, from
part of the hunter-gatherers' (who lived in Renosterveld) diet Namaqualand to the south-western Cape (Overberg).
Boophane disticha. Commonly known as Gifbol. Widespread
through the country both in summer and winter rainfall
Amaryllis belladonna. Commonly known as the March Lily, areas. It has a large, partly exposed, long-lived bulb which is
