knew I wanted to farm and now I was
experiencing it first-hand.
I joined Grass Enterprises in 1972, where
the focus was on instant lawn production
which was becoming increasingly popular.
Q: Please talk about the formation of
your company, Top Turf
A: Top Turf Lawns was founded by myself
and Jimmy Power in 1976. I was MD but
we both had an equal share holding. It
was during this time that I met landscape
designer Patrick Watson, who would
occasionally collect a few square metres of
lawn for projects he was working on.
With the business expanding, the
contracting arm of Top Turf Lawns started,
and right from the beginning, I knew that
this was to be “an evolutionary company”. I
wanted to establish a world class business
that would deliver quality products and
services, and have a long-term future.
We also started supplying different grass
types and branched out into sports field
construction and maintenance.
Lost City Q: What were the highlights and key
projects of your landscaping career?
