TrAINING
PSL TrAINING:
CANNABIS PRODUCTION COURSE
pSL Training College in Vereeniging, Gauteng, was founded in 2008 by owner and
MD Natalie van der Merwe. The Maccauvlei Campus offers courses, training and
skills programmes in a variety of industries and in 2018, after the Constitutional
Court ruling on cannabis growing, introduced a course on cannabis production
and propagation.
Lecture in progress
ver the next two years, the college
held discussions with various
Oorganisations to determine the
value of the cannabis industry in South
Africa. There was agreement that the plant
could make an agricultural, commercial
and medicinal contribution to the
country’s economy and at the end of 2021,
they officially launched the NQF Level
4 course on Medicinal Cannabis plant
production. This is an AgriSETA accredited
skills programme which awards successful
students with a nationally recognised
certificate of competency. pSL works
closely with agricultural and medicinal
training partners to create course material.
AgriSETA accreditation process
The cannabis course was introduced
after collaboration with other established
agricultural training providers and
although it is linked to general cultivation,
it is considered a more specialised area.
pSL also felt the need to distinguish
between the cannabis THC-rich plant
which is exclusively for medicinal and
recreational purposes, and its industrial
Auditorium at the PSL Maccauvlei Campus counterpart, the cannabis hemp plant.
