Above and below: Light, earthy coloured paving was used in sunny areas
and developed, including the renowned
Rustenburg Kloof with its dramatic rock
formations and Acacia trees. The mall
was designed with specific attention
given to the facilitation and integration
of pedestrian movement to it from the
nearby central public transport hub. An
additional satellite transport hub was
provided close to Entrance 1.

Detail planting and paving were provided
at the entrances where pedestrians and
visitors enter the mall. Visual lines were
created to enhance legibility and pedestrian
movement to Entrance 1, leading visitors
into the space where the zero level water
feature provides the perfect Instagram
backdrop for shoppers. In the planters,
material with diverse textures and colours
complement each other, and creepers
were used throughout the development to
soften vertical surfaces.
Environmental aspects
Rustenburg has a very hot climate and
it was important to recognise this and
provide shade trees to spill-out areas where
people sit and congregate. The water
feature at Entrance 1 not only serves as a
focal element to the area but also provides
children and visitors with the perfect cool-
