PROJECT
Stone clad bench and fire pit
Amongst other features, she designed
creeper-covered domes with small doors,
windows and skylight openings, tunnels, a
concrete slide, bridge, burnt climbing poles
and an umbrella stone water fountain.
Plant choices were based on accentuating
each element’s unique characteristics:
meadowy, grass-covered mounds in the
earth quadrant, tall grasses and rustling
leaves in the air quadrant, succulents with
fiery oranges, reds and blacks in the fire
quadrant and wetland planting in the
water quadrant.
The spiral would form the backbone of
the installation and would intersect the
garden’s four quadrants. It would be further
designed to include a waterfall, main
waterway, arched bridges, river boulders,
stepping stones, a raised water channel
with manually operated sluice gates, free
standing water fountain and an end point
spiral and sump. The entire water feature
Fibonacci spiral: river bed section with pedestrian bridge runs off one reticulation system which has
been fine-tuned to prevent the feature
from running dry or flooding, the storage
tanks from overflowing or the pumps from
running dry.
Additional features were included to
provide diversity to the garden. These
were steel pergolas, a timber and rope
suspension bridge, berms, a concrete
slide and tunnel, wind sculpture and
chimes, angled ladder and deck, stone clad
benches and a steel fire pit for evening
entertainment.
An intricate lighting system provides a
variety of feature lighting for night time
activities in the garden. These include
submersible lights strategically positioned
in the water feature, bollard lights and
ground level up-lights.
