Noteworthy points
Meyer made the following points pertaining
to the project:
• installation was executed over a
ten month period, in line with the
construction phases. It continued over
the year-end builders’ holiday period,
which presented a concern as the trees
and plants were left in a very dark, cold
area for several weeks. However, with the
assistance of the architect and project
team, Life Indoors was granted access
over this period to monitor and maintain
them during the shutdown period;
• construction dust was also a concern
as this causes plants to suffer due to
photosynthesis being affected;
• all trees were planted in sealed liners,
with the smaller specimen plants placed
directly into waterproofed, built-in
planters;
• interior atriums are all hand watered
since there is a wide variety of planting
with different watering requirements;
• there was an experienced technician
permanently on site, as well as a roaming
team used when necessary to clean the
large trees and artificial hanging plants;
• the appointed architects allowed
Life Indoors to use their client’s brief,
enabling creativity and use of a wide
variety of trees and plants to enhance
the revamped area. The brief was to
