Architectural design and
landscaping
Architect Julian Katz says that the
relationship between the interior and
exterior of the Circle Senior Living
development formed an essential aspect
of his design, creating a harmonious and
cohesive whole. “It is the art of designing
and creating outdoor spaces around the
building that complement its architecture.
The exterior of the building sets the tone
for what to expect on the inside, and
the interior design complements the
building’s exterior,” he explains.
Large windows create a visual
connection between the interior and
exterior spaces, and the choice of
materials affects the overall aesthetic
of both. The careful use of plants, trees,
flowers and other natural elements
creates an inviting atmosphere and adds
a sense of rootedness to the building’s
surroundings. “The landscaping plays
a vital role in creating a safe, peaceful,
welcoming and aesthetically pleasing
outdoor space for residents, and elements
such as benches, walkways and shaded
areas encourage outdoor activities and
socialisation amongst residents,” adds
Katz.
The careful selection of plants and
trees provides shade, reduces noise and
improves air quality to create a therapeutic
environment that contributes to residents’
wellbeing by reducing stress, enhancing
relaxation and providing opportunities
for physical and outdoor activities. The
landscaping will also enhance the overall
safety of the surroundings by providing
clear paths and reducing the risk of falls.
“We view the landscaping as an
essential aspect of creating a positive,
functional and enriching environment for
retirees, promoting and improving their

Vicinity green wall system
The Vicinity green wall system was chosen
by Bev and installed by her team. It is a
modular, scalable system, adaptable to
meet any requirement. This aspect allows
for easy installation and customisation,
making it suitable for a wide range of
projects.
The pot kit consists of a hexagon
container, geotextile planting bag and an
aluminium rail. The bag is filled with soil,
tied into the pot and the pot then hangs
into the rail. The advantage of the ‘hex
pot’ is that it provides an instant effect
for the wall and plants. An aluminium
alignment bracket has been added to the
kits; it is attached to the bottom of the
pots, keeping them straight on the rail.
