PROJECT

area under the pots, eliminating water
           wastage. The irrigation system comprises
pumps, filters, piping and connectors in
one convenient kit, available in different
sizes to cater for different project
           requirements.
Two vertical walls were installed: one at
the upper deck/restaurant area and one
on the entrance wall of the salon. In the
first instance, space was restricted and
greenery was needed to soften the area.
Here Bev undertook a “very simple colour
           blocking design” using Plectranthus ‘Gold’,
           Stipa grass, Liriope and Chlorophytum,
and adding Bromeliads for colour. Below
the vertical wall, a simple Buxus hedge
provides additional greenery to the space
and to the right of the wall, two planter The landscaping creates a positive environment for retirees

           been added for vibrant colour.
The second vertical wall is at the
entrance to the salon. Plants here are
similar to those in the first wall, with
Echeveria added for its soft grey colour.
Bev says the site challenges were
           considerable due to construction taking
place at the same time as landscape
installation. She worked with her ten staff
           members on site.
           Tranquility in an urban setting
Nature is a powerful force of calmness and
healing, especially in urban areas where
noise, traffic and a feeling of chaos often
prevail. Circle Senior Living provides a
safe space and a retreat for residents, who
can relax in the pleasant surroundings
           created by appropriate plants, greenery,
fragrance and colour – a feast for the
           senses.
            Corene Breedt-Rammutla, CEO and co-
founder of Circle Senior Living, says that
being in an urban setting does not mean
           that one’s environment and interaction
with nature have to be compromised.
“Connecting with nature is an important
part of one’s holistic wellness and we
           believe that by creating interesting
garden spaces, our residents will continue
to feel joy and tranquility in their lives,”
           she says. n
