SHADOWLANDS EDITORIAL
PROFILE ON SHADOWLANDS NURSERY
Shadowlands Wholesale Nursery was founded in 1994 and this year celebrates its
30th anniversary. Warwick Bayer started the nursery on a small piece of agricultural
land on the outskirts of Kuilsriver, in the Cape.
ix pack groundcovers were the main
product line and Warwick employed
Sa small team of workers and a driver.
His goal was to grow quality plants and
establish the Shadowlands name in the
industry.
Today Shadowlands is a major supplier
of not only six pack groundcovers, this
being the biggest line, but they have also
expanded to become a one-stop shop for
their customers, offering herbs, annuals,
grass plugs, succulents, perennial shrubs
and colour lines. Many loyal landscapers
visit the nursery on a regular, often weekly
basis. The nursery does not supply direct
to the public, but its plants are available at
garden centres and retail nurseries in the
Western Cape.
The nursery has grown from having only
one driver to a full delivery team that travels
all over the Cape Peninsula, Overberg and
Stellenbosch/Paarl areas on a weekly basis.
Thirty years after launching, some of their
valued workers are still employed today.
A motivated, happy workforce is a high
priority at Shadowlands and continual
training is offered to all departments. Staff visit the retail nurseries with samples of your fingers and breathe in that smell,
members are regularly taken to visit retail plants, and we welcome and encourage our means that Shadowlands will always share
