but if you have a cropped sensor camera,
you may want to set the ISO at 640 or 800 to
minimise the amount of grain or digital noise.
The more noise there is in an image, the less
sharp it appears.
Shooting birds that are flying towards you can
be more tricky as the focal point will rapidly
change, depending on how fast the bird is
flying towards you. Basically, the larger the
bird and the more slowly the bird flies, the
easier it will be for you to maintain your focus

Shooting birds that are flying parallel to you
will therefore be much easier and a good
place to start if you are just learning how to
shoot birds in flight.
Another interesting technique is to pan using
a lower shutter speed. This will allow you to
capture motion blur for both the background
and the wings of the bird.
Once you have mastered the art of
photographing birds in flight with the basics
of the sun behind you, you can start to
explore shooting into the light to capture
bold silhouettes as another form of creative
photographic expression.
