SIMPLE STEPS TO MAKE YOUR HOME

AS ENERGY EFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE

change top of mind, making your home
Wmore energy efficient is one of the
smartest things you can do. The good news? You
don’t need to spend thousands or install solar
panels (though these can help too!). Many energy-
saving improvements are simple and affordable,
and can make a big difference in your comfort and
monthly bills.

Here are some easy and effective ways to make
your home more energy efficient:

1. Seal up draughts
Did you know that up to 30% of a home’s heating
and cooling energy can be lost through leaks
around doors and windows?
What to do:
- Use weatherstripping or caulking to seal gaps
around doors, windows and baseboards.
- Install door sweeps at the bottom of exterior
doors.
- Check for draughts using a lit candle; if the
flame flickers near windows or doors, it’s likely
that there’s a leak.

2. Upgrade to LED lighting
Old incandescent bulbs waste a lot of energy as
heat.

What to do:
- Replace them with LED bulbs, which use up
to 80% less energy and last up to 25 times
longer. Start with your most-used lights, such
as exterior/security lights and those in kitchens,
bathrooms and living rooms.
