About our guide and his tours
Graeme, our guide, was originally a
journalist. He was also a professor in
communication at the University of North
West. He now writes books and other
published materials, specialising in the
Vredefort Dome event. He and his wife,
Karen, live on the Vaal River at Otter’s
Haunt, their guest farm. Contact them if
you want to share in this amazing bit of our
country’s geomorphological history.
Otter’s Haunt is situated on the banks of
the Vaal River, near Parys and at the foot
of the Dome Berglands, or mountain ring.
Visitors can do the tour with Graeme, or he
will give you a 45-minute briefing before
you self-drive the dome using his mapped
self-drive guide. This guide includes a 20-
page information booklet to help you
understand what you are looking at.
These are the tour options available to
visitors:
- Drive with an expert guide, half day or
full day
- Raft the river to see amazing features
exposed by erosion
- Get a briefing and a self-drive map and
booklet
- Hike to high points from which the
Vredefort Dome and Bergland can be
seen
- Battlefield tours of this historic area are
also on offer
