LANDSCAPING –

        FACT OR FICTION?

By Emile Bolton, STM Landscaping Project Manager at Waterfall City

T o add a little fun to our last
               edition of 2022, we dispel
               some myths and share some
               facts about landscaping and
        your garden.

        People feel calmer with
        a seascape screensaver
        than with a landscaped
        screensaver.
Fiction – Research worldwide has shown
        that the most widely-used screensavers
are more likely to be rolling hills or
        lavendar fields than crashing waves.

        Watering grass during the
hottest period of the day will
        burn your grass.
Fiction – When cooling down your
grass with water for a short time during
the middle of a hot summer’s day, it
is referred to as syringing your grass.
        Prolonged periods of heat elevate
        the internal leaf temperatures. Water
droplets assist by cooling down the
leaf in a fraction of a second before
        evaporation occurs. However, do not
        confuse deep watering with syringing.
Syringing is only a short 3-minute
cycle compared to deep watering for
20-minutes at midday, which will lead to
soil-borne diseases and root rot, as the
damp soil temperature will rise higher
        than the atmosphere’s temperature.

Conclusion – Watering your grass during
the hottest part of the day is healthy, but
it should only be a little, to cool it down.

        Landscaping can add up
to 15% value to your house
        when selling.
Fact – Consider the following when
        selling your house:
