TINY BITES OF
PORTUGUESE HEAVEN
B listered, caramelised custard. Golden brown
flaky puff pastry. There is nothing not to love
about pasteis de nata, the famous Portuguese
custard tarts, which are dangerously addictive.
Pasteis de nata were invented in the 18th century by
monks at Jeronimo’s Monastery outside Lisbon, where
it was common for egg whites to be used to starch the
nuns’ habits, leaving the monks with all the leftover yolks.
Voila! Tiny little custard tarts, which everyone loves. So,
imagine the joy of discovering Casa Das Natas, an entire
store specialising only in pasteis de nata!
Of course, there are the classics, but why stop there? Not
when you can add a touch of chocolate… and not just
any chocolate, how about Nutella? Others have berry jam,
apple and cinnamon, Matcha, and for vegans, there are
some with no dairy or eggs.
Enjoy a bite of heaven along with fine Portuguese coffee
in Mall of Africa.
You will find these treasures at store no. 1238/1239.
