From a workspace planning point of
view, the aim was to provide a bespoke
design that allowed for the consolidation
of Deloitte’s Johannesburg and Pretoria
offices into a single head office. The design
had to aid in creating a unified and flat
corporate culture with connection and
flexibility at its core. The most effective
solution was to opt for a low‐rise design
rather than a tower.
Each level has a floor plate of 6 000m²
which is highly efficient, does not
separate staff more than necessary, and
allows for easy reconfiguration of space if
required. A multi-volume atrium ensures
visual connection between floors, with a
skylight above that lets in ample natural
light.
The staff restaurant has been
conceptualised in an innovative way, to
encourage interaction. It accommodates
three sittings of 350 people at a time
and offers different types of cuisine at a
variety of themed food stations. The idea
is to emulate the popular food halls that
