COVER STORY

                   A just energy transition or

                          missed opportunities

                                                  Information from Roshqott

A just transition drive to a clean energy environment is globally well on its way,
where countries are already enjoying high levels of renewable energy generation,

facilitated through technological investment and the creation of enabling energy policy.

uring the first window for solar For this to succeed, we had to get all stakeholders to buy in to our vision. This made
and wind renewal energy projects, it possible to get through the tough times without a single job loss. These strategies were

economic growth as well as adding tough market, viz., strategies based on a core idea on how Roshqott could best compete in
substantial capacity to the country’s grid
network. However, due to many factors
this process has been severely delayed, if
        it hasn’t stagnated altogether.
           The renewable energy sector has
the capacity to promote job creation
on the scale that the country needs, to
achieve its stated commitments to meet
and deliver on its promises of economic
revival and job creation through large
        infrastructure projects.
           The current legal wrangles and
        accusations of improper conduct have
        created an environment of uncertainty
for the sector. This has resulted in
        missed opportunities to capitalise on
cost-efficient wind and solar PV. South
Africa is in dire need of these to mitigate
        energy supply gaps and contribute
        to economic revival, especially in
this current climate of pandemic and
        economic recession.

        Six things we did right
During the current recession and at
the height of the pandemic, Roshqott
had to get six things right to survive
the tough economic times. This we did
very successfully by having a clear end
point and adaptation plan at first. We
went on to reset the structure and used
piloting technologies and ideas for new
        projects. During that period, management
        concentrated on Roshqott’s core business
and heightened the company’s value Roshqott’s head office, 21 Monte Carlo Crescent, Kyalami Business Park, Midrand, Gauteng
