TEST REVIEW FORD
Ford Ranger 2.0Bi-Turbo
Double Cab 4x4 Stormtrak
n life, practice makes perfect. When it comes
to motor assembly, this also applies.
IWhen a vehicle has been assembled for a
long period, it’s well known that the best quality
will emerge. This certainly applies to the local
production of the Ford Ranger that has been
assembled at Silverton for a number of years now.
It’s common knowledge that the next
generation model of the Ranger will be
launched during 2022, so Ford is now following
another old custom by offering numerous
special edition models.
The latest in this line is the Stormtrak that we
recently tested. Based on the popular Wildtrak
model, this adds a number of styling cues and
extra features to the recipe. The 2l bi-turbo diesel
engine is unchanged and still provides 157kW
and 500Nm to the rear or all 4 wheels at the twist
of a knob. The ultra-smooth 10-speed automatic
transmission is also unchanged.
On the exterior, Stormtrak adds 18” black
alloys, red detailing around the grille and decals
on the sides and tailgate. An added feature
is the roller shutter for the load area, but it’s
motorised this time for ease of operation. The
load divider that first featured on the Thunder
model is also included.
The roller shutter and load divider are both
excellent for security and loading of certain
items but they do restrict and limit the load area.
However, a model like the Stormtrak is intended
as a lifestyle vehicle and not a load-lugger so I
don’t believe that this will be a problem to most
prospective buyers.
In the interior, it is the same as the Wildtrak
with the addition of red stitching on the seats and
around the cabin. Ford Connect now features for
improved connectivity.
Priced at R846 500, the Stormtrak is
competitive in the premium lifestyle double cab
segment and adds the bonus of exclusivity, as it’s
a special edition model. n
