FAMILY CAMPOUT Saturday 4 March 2023
t last, the day of the Family Campout arrived! With
families begging, borrowing, and – ahem – buying
camping equipment, the excitement of our younger
Aresidents was palpable! Faced with a daunting array
of tent poles, ground sheets, stretchers and folding tables, our
intrepid campers pressed on with setting up camp. More often
than not, the junior campers were found sitting with juice boxes in
hand and supervising the set-up! From the practical to the luxe, the
Fourways Gardens community was out in full force and our Phase 1
park was beautifully prepared. A few mid-afternoon clouds quickly
disappeared and we were fortunate to enjoy pleasant weather: not
too hot, not too cold, just right!
Our kids enjoyed the best of both worlds – camping and revelling
in the outdoors, all while safely in our estate! Braai by torchlight,
smores and roasted marshmallows after dinner, impromptu soccer
and cricket matches, and hot chocolate at the end of an exhausting
day created lifelong memories for our children and their families.
As the evening wore on, campsites powered down, and only a few
outcrops of fireside chatter could be heard long into the night!
Bright and early on Sunday morning, bikes were zooming past
slumbering tents, soccer resumed, and the great evacuation began.
Tents were disassembled and socks and shoes were thrown into
car boots. The popup tent outwitted and outlasted us all and more
than a few were temporarily folded, to be aired out on lawns at
home (to dry, not because we admit defeat)!
We thank Jeri Moran of Chas Everitt properties, who made this
event possible and such a memorable activity in Fourways Gardens!
