TODAY’S CHILD
TEACH YOUR CHILD
TO PROBLEM-SOLVE
BY NICOLEEN DAVIES, LIFE TALK FORUM
very day, we all have problems,
conflicts or issues that need to be
resolved. For our children, it is no
Edifferent.
They may not know where to find their toy or
what they want to wear, or they may be in a
conflict situation with a sibling over sharing
a toy. To them, these are real issues. By
teaching your children how to solve problems
from a young age, you set them up to
develop valuable habits that will carry them
through life.
In the same way that you teach your child to
speak or ride a bike, it’s essential that you
teach them the life skill of problem-
solving. This skill can be applied to
issues big or small. When times
get tough, it’s likely that your
child will immediately turn to you
to help them resolve an issue.
But compare this to the workplace
and the fact that so many people
don’t look to others to help them
solve or fix an issue, because they
are able to do so themselves.
