Ruimsig synthetic turf at both schools, using
Wondergrass 40mm multi-use leisure
grass. At Paulshof, 480m2 was placed in the
children’s play area, and at Ruimsig 420m2,
also in the children’s play area. The grass,
supplied in a four metre wide piece, was
cut and joined on site as per the landscape
architect’s specifications.

Sand play area and jungle gym, with shade sails to cool the area down
Endemic Developments, under project Trees next to the admin block were retained, creating shade for this quiet
manager Dawid Strydom, was responsible
for the landscape and playground area seating area
installation at Ruimsig. In the pre-primary
school section, his scope of work was the
slope against the parking lot for climbing,
a sensory pathway, mud kitchen, bicycle
track, obstacles, sand pits and the tepee
area. In the primary school area, his scope
of work comprised a sand pit, drinking
fountains, embankment slide, planting
of trees, plants and lawn and a manual
irrigation system.
The planting strategy was the same as for Ruimsig
Paulshof but because of budget constraints
on this project, more succulents and plugs
were used. Rubberised logo mats were customised for the entrances to both
Immense Acacia trees next to the admin schools
block and kiosk were retained. A quiet
seating area was constructed underneath
the trees amidst dense, shade-loving
plants, taking care to stay away from the
trees’ roots and to avoid unnecessary
compaction of the soil around them. The
area creates a lush, welcoming feel.
