21 NETTLETON RECEIVES GREEN
KEY AWARD
21 Nettleton, a private boutique hotel in Cape Town, is the recipient of a Green Key
Award for its efforts in sustainability. Green Key is a global tourism industry eco-label
which recognises excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable
operations. With the hotel’s core focus being sustainability, it was able to comply with the
highest environmental management standards set by the Foundation for Environmental
Education (FEE). The hotel has entered into a partnership with WESSA, an organisation
that implements environmental, sustainable tourism, education and youth development
programmes throughout South Africa.
Nettleton falls into the category of
21 “Small Accommodation” Year 1. The
other available Green Key categories are:
hotels, conferences, campsites, attractions
and restaurants. 21 Nettleton met all the
imperative criteria applicable under the
sections as prescribed by Green Key for
Small Accommodation, highlighting a few
areas where the establishment performed
well. These are given below.
Environmental management
A detailed Environmental Action
Plan (EAP) prescribing environmental
objectives for 2018-2023 is in place and is
reviewed every year to observe whether
the objectives have been met. This ensures
continuous improvement.
21 Nettleton has set an objective to
support its surrounding local schools to
undertake the Eco Schools programme.
